This article is devoted to one of the directions of modern freelance-processing of construction objects. Since the article and theme are trial in this direction, it will be covered by the author's experience as an engineer - designer, the main problems arising in the work and the prospects for the development of this direction on the freelance. All described in this article is an exclusively personal opinion of the author, which is based on the level of its competence in this area, and the experience of work in the construction of the construction.

Currently, when a person hears about the freelance, first of all, such things as programming, administration, copywrites are coming to mind as programming, administration, copywrites, professions, which are somehow connected with modern Internet and IT technologies. The author of this article is not a freelancer according to one of the above directions.

I would, on the contrary, I wanted to tell about one of the directions of freelancing, the volume of projects of which is not so high, but I believe that prospects for the growth and development of this direction are very high.

In June 2012, I graduated from the Nizhny Novgorod State Architectural and Construction University in the direction of "Information Systems and Technologies in Construction". The freelancer career began at the 5th year of the university in 2011, upon admission to a permanent job as an engineer in the company engaged in the design and installation of low-current systems in the construction of buildings and structures. First steps on the freelance

The direction in the design that I chose is the low-current systems to which the fire alarm system, fire automatics, the alerts and control systems of people in fire, fire extinguishing (gas, powder, thin water), security alarm and communication system (structured cable systems and telephone communication systems).
To begin with, Freilance was not a means of earnings for me, but a means of improving my qualifications and acquiring additional experience. One of my advantages was that I managed to find a balance between practice, that is, direct participation in the construction of facilities, and the design, the main share of which came on the freelance.
One of the main difficulties for the novice freelancer is always the attraction of the first customers and the working capacity of the Customer Base. My first customers have become small building organizations in which there were no designers on a permanent basis in my direction, which permanent orders could give in perspective.
During the first year, I managed to establish cooperation with 4-5 construction firms, which later began to refer to me on an ongoing basis. I should notice that for a novice freelancer, which has not yet possess sufficient experience in a professional plan, it is very important to show the most loyal attitude towards the customer (naturally, within reasonable limits). In my work, I always stay in touch, for small alterations I never take an additional fee, I have advice to manufacturers of work during construction.

I consider it very important at the first stage of the work to sacrifice some financial ambitions for experience and entry into the profession.

Design and freelance. Is it compatible?

In contrast to the IT sphere, construction is a subtle topic. Errors in construction should not lead to the consequences that can further bring large losses such as financial and humanitarian. Based on the foregoing, I take only one conclusion that many errors in construction can be avoided at the design stage. Of course, the design on freelanse to a certain extent increases the likelihood of errors. In the foreground I would like to allocate two sides: the customer and the performer. From the side of the customer it is important to build relations with the Contractor in such a way as to maximize the level of responsibility of the Contractor.

The most common and easy way is to build such a payment system in which the Contractor receives an advance to start work, and the residue is listed only when the documentation, for example, passes all necessary coordination (state examination of project documentation, departmental examination of working documentation, etc. .). Another design quality control is a presence in the staff of the customer employee who can supervise and oversee the design of the freelancer or a group of freelancers. In my practice, both of the options described by me take place.

A variant in which the customer simply orders the project and, without checking it, pays for all the work by the Contractor immediately, we do not consider, although it has to be observed.

Obviously, on the side of the freelancer, personal qualities are published, moving performer to fulfill its work qualitatively and responsibly, when not only the goals of earnings, as well as to obtain a qualitative and working project are put on the fore.

Also one of the important causes of design errors is the abstract representation of the designers that they are developing. Speaking more specifically, the lion's share of the designers never happens at construction sites and does not take any participation in the process of manufacturing work. But at the stage of construction of an object of any scale regularly arise, issues related to the developed project, and the designer is important to take direct participation in solving these issues. The main place of my work is more connected with the production of work, less with the design. For 4.5 years of work, I made about 60 projects of various scale and appointment, including industrial buildings. This fact speaks about the desire of customers to work with freelance designers in large facilities, and the potential for the development of freelance in this direction.
